How To Set Boundaries In Your Marketing Business

It’s time to set fundamental business boundaries because you deliver your best work when your needs are met.

Also… you deserve to have your life back.

So you should now know the importance of establishing business boundaries, and why they’re key to have in place in order to have a thriving business without the bullshit. If you haven’t already, start by reading The Art of Setting Business Boundaries first.

We’ll cover simple ways to create and implement your boundaries as a small business owner because I want to make this easy for you.

Create and Implement Your Business Boundaries

  1. Work Out Your Priorities

Identify your key values and priorities, both in your personal life and your business.  This will help you determine where you might need to set boundaries and allocate your time and resources accordingly.

  2. Communicate Boundaries Clearly

Make sure to communicate your boundaries with your clients and employees. Be open and transparent about your availability, response times, and limits, ensuring everyone understands and respects your boundaries. These can be repeated throughout your marketing comms, sales calls, proposals and website FAQs.

  3. Implement Consequences

Once you’ve got those boundaries in place, ensure clients are respecting them otherwise there will be consequences (which you need to act on, no more people-pleasing). You can be generous sometimes because shit happens in life and sometimes clients are going through it, but having the boundaries in place first means you won’t suffer the emotional cost later on.

  4. Protect Personal Time

Designate specific times during the week for personal shit. Maybe you don’t work Fridays, maybe you work evenings so you have weekends off, or only check emails three days a week so you can binge Netflix. Avoid the temptation to constantly ‘be available’ during these moments, allowing yourself to fully disconnect, recharge and instil those boundaries you’ve worked hard to create.

Remember… Boundaries without consequences are just rules you made up. They’re important AF and allow you to make time for your real-life priorities, whether that’s time with your family or time spent chilling.

As a small business owner, implementing boundaries is vital for your personal well-being and the success of your business. You’ll feel so much more confident in what you offer, and how you offer it so that when things go pear-shaped (because they do sometimes) you’ll know exactly how to deal with it
